Why is stucco so hard to maintain?
Stucco expands and contracts dramatically compared to other substrates. Cracks develop and allow water to seep into your home. This then causes mold and mildew to grow inside your structure.
Proper maintenance of stucco structures is necessary to keep your interior dry. Minnesota Painter recommends an elastomeric or 100% acrylic latex coating to allow the top coat to stretch with your buildings movement.
